Charlotte/Douglas International Airport
West Daily Parking Deck

The building has approximately 60,000 SF of perforated stainless steel skin exterior. This exciting material was chosen because of its many aesthetic, practical and budgetary attributes that are well suited to parking structures.

The skin provides an ornamental cover that glimmers in the sunlight by day, while at night, it is theatrically illuminated to glow dark blue. The perforations allow more sunlight and air circulation inside the deck than traditional parking deck cladding systems. In addition, the skin is approximately 30% less expensive than typical pre-cast concrete cladding.

The perforated metal theme was continued inside the building. Curving perforated metal lay-in ceilings are located at the elevator lobbies. Also, perforated metal panels were used to separate the elevator hoist ways from the backlit illuminated glass panels at the elevator fronts.
