Perforated Aluminum Sunscreens
and Privacy Gate on a Duplex in Austin, Texas
This project features perforated aluminum panels on aluminum tube steel sections attached to the exterior of a rather contemporary designed duplex residential condominium in Austin, Texas. The western exposure required a sun control method that could not only provide protection from the heat, but privacy along a busy street. The perforated aluminum is relatively maintenance free, and reduces light transmission by 50%, thus helping with mechanical cooling bills. The panels limit visibility into the structure at night, and create a lantern effect as the interior lighting illuminates them from within. Perforated metal is utilized as a design detail throughout the home, finding its way into lighting fixtures, and a custom gate that controls access to a private patio.
