Renovation - Corporate Office Interior

A multi-media holding agency wanted a space that reflected their images and profile as a company. The multi-media division sells advertising to stations and billboards nationally, and wanted a definite progression of spaces, sequencing from the elevator lobby to the conference room. The offices are located within a suburban business park and most of the context for the design in introverted, limiting visual connections outside.

Design came directly from understanding the client. The company's relationship to billboard advertising and inspiration behind the media industry manifests itself through a series of architectural installations within the space. One of the earliest examples of modern advertising is Vilmos Huszar's piece for the Broynzeel Company (1917-18). His use of "hatching" within a frame leaks to multiple spatial readings. The architect used this "de Stijl" application to explore one's spatial reading through multiple screens and scrims within the interior.

One of the main features within the space is a perforated aluminum panel over structural tube steel. This wall is meant to both define the corridor and screen visitors from the conference room, but also reference back to imagery of a billboard. Perforations on both sides create a moire effect, invoking Vilmore Huszars advertisement. Simple, clean lines throughout the space help reinforce this concept. References to "de Stijl" had the work of Piet Mandrian are also evident in the detailing.

Construction materials: Perforated aluminum, drywall, plycem, limestone, structural glass, cherry and Maple wood, lumasite, metal stud, structural steel, lay-in ceiling drywall.
